Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Is Testing — Soft Openings Just Weeks Away
After more than a year of silence in Frontierland, Magic Kingdom's beloved "wildest ride in the wilderness" has resumed testing with weighted dummies — the final stage before soft openings begin.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is testing again at Magic Kingdom. Ride vehicles loaded with weighted dummies have been spotted on the tracks as the attraction moves toward its long-awaited reopening. Inside the Magic reports that for over a year "a silent, red-rocked silhouette has loomed over Frontierland," with the iconic "Hang onto your hats and glasses!" spiel conspicuously absent. Testing with weighted dummies is typically the last step before Cast Member previews and soft openings. With the runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend scheduled for April 16–20, Disney has strong incentive to bring the mine train coaster back online in the coming weeks.
